Qur'an Chat (the app and thequran.chat) is provided by Division Software, based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Division Software is the controller of your personal data. Questions: support@thequran.chat.

The app is non-commercial. It shows no ads, does not sell your data and does not track you across apps or websites. It uses no analytics or advertising tools.

Without an account

Reading, searching and looking up words need no account. Your settings (language, translation, display) and your reading place are kept on your device.

Your account

When you create an account, your email address and how you sign in are stored. With email sign-in, a code is sent to your address. With Google sign-in, Google gives us your name, email address and the address of your profile picture.

What is stored with your account

These are kept on our servers so they sync between your devices. Only you can see your notes.

"Ask the Quran" and "Explain"

When you ask a question or ask for a verse to be explained, your question and the earlier messages of that conversation are sent to the AI model that writes the answer. The model is called through OpenRouter. Your questions are not stored with your account. Your conversation history is kept only on your device.

If you rate an answer up or down, that question and answer (and any reason you write) are kept, not linked to your account, to improve the answers.

To prevent abuse, the number of questions you ask each day is kept (7 days). The duration and cost of each request, without its text, are kept for 90 days.

Search

For search by meaning, the text you search for is sent to the model that works out its meaning. Searches are kept for statistics for 30 days with a one-way code instead of your identity. So the same search isn't worked out again, its text is kept, not linked to you, for up to 90 days.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, your device's notification token, your language, your time zone and your chosen translation are stored. They are not linked to your account. Notifications are sent through Expo and Apple. Turning notifications off deletes the record; records unused for 180 days are deleted too.

Our service providers

These providers may keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) while providing their service.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete and port your data, and to object to its processing. You can delete your account in Profile: your saved verses, labels, notes, reading place, settings and your account are deleted, and the conversation history on the device is cleared. For other requests, write to support@thequran.chat. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page.
